Don’t Let PEMS Paralyze HIV Prevention Programs
June 2006 UPDATE
On May 31st, CDC released a Dear Colleague letter announcing that PEMS data collect requirements for counseling and testing will be postponed "until a later date," and that work groups are being formed to review variables requirements and system usability. The letter also includes CDC's summary of the "PEMS Stakeholders Meeting" on April 25-26.
During this time, programs can continue to collect programmatic data utilizing whatever systems are currently in effect at the local level. If you are told differently by any federal, state or local official, please contact us immediately by emailing sean@champnetwork.org.
Are you or your colleagues attending the HIV Prevention Leadership Summit (HPLS)? Please join us for a CHAMP-convened roundtable titled “Community-Driven Monitoring and Evaluation of Prevention Programs" on Tuesday (June 6) from 8:30-10:30am. CDC will also be hosting an institute titled "PEMS Program Review, New Directions Based on Grantee Feedback" on Monday (June 5th) from 2-5pm.

Check out CHAMP's two-page meeting summary, CDC's Day 1 and Day 2 presentations, and Stakeholder recommendations (Part 1) and (Part 2) for CDC. Each meeting participant also recieved a copy of the community sign-on letter to CDC proposing four core recommendations for improving PEMS.
